Week 8 - Online Tutorial - Fusion 360 Materials

Fusion 360 - 3D shape

This week, I applied material appearances to the 3D shape of my initials (JHC) made in Fusion 360 last week.

The default appearance:

Material Combination 1:

  • silver-polished
  • glass- heavy colour
  • glass-clouds
I wanted this first combination to be highly reflective of its surroundings and look almost weightless. The two different types of glass also plays with the degree of transparency.

Material Combination 2:
  • oak- semigloss
  • gemstone- diamond
  • mahogany
My second combination has more natural elements of wood and minerals. The inner mahogany is a richer red colour compared to the lighter oak finish of the exterior. The diamond highlights the faces of the initials.

Material Combination 3:
  • fabric (denim, yellow, red)
The third material combination was inspired by vintage streetwear. The primary colours are sharp and contrasting.

Fusion 360 Transitional Space

Having learnt the rendering process, I also added materials to my Fusion 360 model of the transitional space made in week 5.
I chose a natural oak finish complemented with glass on the front facing surfaces, thereby granting a view of the interior.
